Artist: Deliz Berrios

Deliz Berrios is an emerging visual artist from Puerto Rico. She moved to Orlando, Florida in the 80s where she completed a Fine Arts degree at the University of Central Florida, with a concentration in Graphic Design and painting. She has worked as a graphic artist and translator since then, in addition to doing work as an illustrator and painter.

As a young woman in Puerto Rico, she was first inspired by the work of Henry Rousseau. Later her influences have spanned the scope of the modern period painters; Picasso, Magritte, Dalí, Warhol, and Chagall to name a few.

Her work in acrylic includes combinations of surrealist, portraiture, and figurative elements, emphasized by vibrant colors and patterns. She uses symbols in her work to deal with topics related to identity, life struggle, the quality of being female, and the inner self, among others.

Deliz was one of the award winners at the 3rd Annual Juried Unusual Frida art exhibit. She was also a featured artist at Portraits of Empowerment: Womanhood & Activism honors Women at the UCF Library. In addition to regularly showing her work at the 1st Thursday Orlando Museum of Art shows, she has exhibited her work at FAVO studios, College Park Gallery, and Nude Nite.
