La Moda

La Moda is a 36 inches by 24 inches colored pencil art piece.

Inspired by modern day fashion croquis, La Moda, is an exploration into Frida Kahlo’s clothing reimagined as designer wear. Frida’s typical fashion consisted of bulky, long dresses due to multiple illnesses leading to the amputation of a leg. Embracing the mini skirt cut above the knees to show off her prosthetic leg, the artwork is a nod at her traditional Mexican style with crimson silk and aquamarine sequence netting. Buttercup yellow polka-dot top with lace accentuates the tight fitting bodice of Frida’s form. The piece, which mimics a fashion design mood board, shows her unique beauty in a new way.

I am a middle and high school art teacher at Foundation Academy in Winter Garden, FL. I believe deeply in the arts and am enjoying exploring my own personal artistic expressions. This is my first entry into an art show.
