Casa Frida

I am a self-taught mixed-media artist living in Punta Gorda, Florida. My work typically is about creating worlds by experimenting with found, unexpected and random objects. I always have been attracted to religious, ethnic and folkloric imagery, roadside memorials, home altars and outsider art. To pay tribute to Frida Kahlo, I created “Casa Frida,” in which I have imagined a house full of Fridas—where the babies, adults, pets and the attic skeleton all display Frida’s instantly recognizable features.

They’re at home in a vibrant Mexican-inspired décor complete with framed Frida artwork. All (or most) of the furnishings, floors, wallpaper, rugs, accessories, clothing, wigs and even unibrows have been hand-made or hand- painted by me.
